Our Waterjet Cutting Services for Georgia Businesses
The waterjet cutting system at ACS CNC Machining & Fabrication offers more flexibility than traditional cutting techniques, enabling us to accommodate a wider variety of needs, requirements, and solutions.
Types of Waterjet Cutting
-
Single-Dimension (1D) Cutting
Single-dimension cutting involves a stationary cutting head for precise trimming or slitting. It can also be used to create multiple straight or parallel cuts in a material. This is common for making cuts or slits in large pieces of paper, metal, plastic, or textiles.
-
Two-Axis (XY) Cutting
XY cutting involves moving the cutting head along the machine’s X and Y axes to cut out more intricate and complex shapes, patterns, and designs. XY cutting is common in the production of gaskets, automotive parts, certain panels, and other flat parts or components.
-
Three-Axis (XYZ) Cutting
XYZ cutting adds movement along the Z axis (the vertical axis) for more precise cutouts. It is commonly used to create more complex parts or components, especially those that require cuts at varying depths or beveled cuts.
-
Four-Axis (XYZA) Cutting
XYZA cutting adds rotation to the A axis along the X axis so that the waterjet can access even more complex and intricate areas for cutting. The workpiece rotates as the cutting head moves horizontally, vertically, and side to side. Four-axis cutting allows the production of 3D parts or components.
-
Five-Axis (XYZAC) Cutting
XYZCA cutting is the most advanced technique because it adds rotational movement to the C axis along the Z axis. In other words, the cutting head can tilt and rotate as it moves up and down the Z axis for even more intricate and complex cuts.

What Is Waterjet Cutting?
Waterjet cutting is a process that uses ultra-high-pressure streams of water, sometimes mixed with abrasive substances, to precisely cut materials. Unlike traditional CNC machining, laser cutting, and other methods, waterjet cutting generates no heat, preventing the material from distorting or warping and preserving its integrity.

Pure vs. Abrasive Waterjet Cutting
There are two variations of waterjet cutting: Pure waterjet cutting and abrasive waterjet cutting.
-
Pure Waterjet Cutting
This process uses only water to cut materials. It is most commonly used to cut softer materials like paper, foam, rubber, and plastics.
-
Abrasive Waterjet Cutting
This process adds abrasive materials, commonly garnet, to the water stream. It is necessary for cutting harder materials like metals, stone, ceramics, glass, and more.
